Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the choices are limited since you won't have root access to the website hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions which are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the web server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

When you have a shared hosting account with our company and you'd like to deal with your content remotely through SSH, you can easily obtain SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not offer this feature as standard, you could add it with a couple of clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared several Help articles where you can easily find each of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, as well as examples of how they are used. In addition, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to obtain SSH access to it with a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you shall be able to add it effortlessly via the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you will discover the details which you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if required. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we provide. A thorough list of the commands which you can execute shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to handle your content no matter which VPS plans you select when you sign up, as all our plans come with this function as standard. You'll not need to include or activate anything manually - immediately after your hosting server is prepared and you get the Welcome email with the login credentials, you can connect and begin working on your Internet sites or any software that you would like to set up and run on the hosting server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from all the other accounts in the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You may install any app you require and which will work on a Linux-based machine, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases easily and quickly.
